Abstract

Prior to being released into new improved varieties, it is necessary to characterize plant morphology and to identify the resilience of cassava hope clones to the main pests and diseases of cassava, namely red pest and tuber blight. Characterization and identification were carried out on 15 cassava clones conducted in 2016 in greenhouses, pathology laboratories, and Balitkabi plant breeding laboratories. The result of plant morphology characterization shows that clones of hope have leaf color from light green to brownish, dark green leaf color, greenish red to red color, yellowish green, brown and silver color. The tuber's observation shows the outer shell color of the cream and brown bulbs, the inner white and pink skin tones, the color of white tuber meat and beige, the skin roughness of the bulb is smooth, slightly coarse, and coarse. The thickness of inner tuber skin ranged from 1.00 - 1.50 mm. Based on observations of plant resistance to red mite pests, it was found that there was one sensitive clone, 12 resistant clones, and two resistant clones. While the resistance level to tuber rot showed a vulnerable clone of tuber bulb, one clone is slightly vulnerable, two clones rather resistant, and 11 resistant rot of tubers.
