Abstract

One of the goals of mathematics learning is that students are expected to have mathematical communication skills, namely the ability of students to read mathematical discourses with understanding, develop mathematical language and symbols, visualize and reflect pictures or diagrams into mathematical ideas, formulate and solve problems through discovery. One of the relevant strategies for improving students' mathematical communication skills is the think-talk-write (TTW) type cooperative learning model. The TTW learning model has a positive influence on improving students' mathematical communication skills. This study aims to determine whether there is a difference between the increase in mathematical communication skills of students who use the TTW learning model and students who use conventional learning in the matter of straight line equations. Research method is quantitative research with the type of research true experimental research design pre-test and post-test control group. The research sample was determined by purposive sampling technique which was divided into control class (VIII3) and experimental class (VIII4). Based on the results of data analysis on the N-Gain scores of mathematical communication skills obtained the value of t-count = -37.73 and t-table value = 2.0072, this means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. The results of this study it was concluded that there was a difference between the improvement of students' mathematical communication skills through the TTW learning model and students through conventional learning in the matter of straight line equations.
