Abstract

Mathematical creative thinking is one aspect of student learning purposes. Therefore, it needs to be encouraged through learning. This study aims to investigate students’ mathematical creative thinking process related to Pythagorean Theorem viewed by cognitive style. This research was a qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 2 students of 8 th grade of junior high schools in Bandung. The research subject selected based on the Matching Familiar Figure Test (MFFT) viewed by Kagan, namely reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. The results show that the reflective student at the preparation, incubation, illumination, and verification stages can understand and identify problem, find ideas from prior knowledge, make mathematical statements based on problems, and re-read or re-count to investigate the answer then continue to solve the problem respectively. While the impulsive student at the preparation, incubation, illumination, and verivication stages show that she has difficulties in understanding the problem, in finding ideas, in doing mathematical calculations, and in determining the final results.
