Abstract

This study aims to describe the students understanding in solving non- routine questions on materials number pattern. Type of this research is descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were 25 students of class VIII in junior high school who is given the non-routine question about number patterns. Then, selected 3 students with each of them included in the category of high, medium and low abilities. The researcher used triangulation as technique for data collection. Data obtained from the results of observations, test, interviews and then analysed based on the APOS theory which consists of stages action, processes, objects and schemes. This study shows students' understanding abilities still need to be improved.
