Abstract
This study is a pre-experimental research that aims to determine student activities, increase student cognitive learning outcomes, completeness of student learning outcomes, and effectiveness of the guided inquiry learning model. The independent variable was the guided inquiry learning model while the dependent variable was students’ cognitive learning outcomes. Research subjects were 30 students of class VIIIa of SMP Negeri 4 Pulau-Pulau Terselatan. Research design used was one group pretest-posttest design. Data analysis techniques used were descriptive analysis, N-gain analysis, and inferential hypothesis testing with SPSS 20.0 program using t test with a significance level of 0.05. Results of the study concluded that student activities were in active category, the average post-test of student learning outcomes was in good category, the average normalized gain was in high category, the completeness of student learning outcomes exceeded 85%, the guided inquiry learning model on additive and addictive substances is effective to be used to improve student learning outcomes in class VIIIa of SMP Negeri 4 Pulau- Pulau Terselatan.
