Abstract

Cases of child sexual violence in Indonesia have increased 179% by the end of February 2018. It's important to make efforts that prevent further high cases of it, like storytelling through hand puppets. It’s expected to increase children's knowledge about sexuality. Good knowledge of sexuality can prevent the occurrence of sexual violence against children. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of storytelling through hand puppet shows to increase children's knowledge about sexuality. The research method used was quasi-experimental, one group pretest-posttest design. Subjects consisted of 16 kindergarten students aged 5 years on average, 11 girls and 5 boys. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test analysis showed a value of Z = -2.817a with p = 0.005 <0.05 and from a mean of 6.75 it increases to 8.63. It can be concluded that storytelling through hand puppet shows can increase knowledge about sexuality in children.
