Abstract

Medical students are prone to anxiety, especially in the first year. The high academic requirement is one of the stressors that can lead to anxiety. Anxiety can serve as a motivation that can encourage their study or as a discouragement that hinder students’ learning. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between anxiety level and learning approach in medical students. This research was implemented using retrospective cohort study approach. The results showed the anxiety level of freshman is mild anxiety. As many as 74.0% of freshman use the surface approach . After one year of study, as many as 70.0% of medical students didn’t experience anxiety and up to 84.0% of them used deep approach. Spearman's analysis shows that there is a significant relationship between the anxiety level and student learning approach with a p value <0.05.
