Abstract

The goal of this study was to investigate the language and culture barriers of foreign students towards acquiring academic progress. Thai undergraduate students of English Education Department at Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Purwokerto in Central Java Province, Indonesia participated in this study. Questionnaires, interviews and documents were used to collect the data. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The result has indicated that the Thai students found it difficult to express ideas using English. The results also have shown that language barriers had impact on the students‟ academic performance. On the other hand, culture barriers do not have any impact on the students‟ academic progress.
