Abstract

The competitiveness of local beef from community forest margins are generally low, resulting in a weak local economy. Efforts to increase the competitiveness of local cows will strengthen the local economy through the improvement of cultivation technology, market structure, industry structure and demand conditions for local cattle. Long-term goal of this research is the creation of a strong economy for the people of the forest edge. Specific target in the 2nd year of this being to adopt models of competitiveness of local cattle in several districts in East Java, Sumenep, Tuban, Bojonegoro, Malang and Blitar. To achieve these objectives using PRA methods, FGD, RRA, indept interviews and surveys. To measure the success of the implementation of the competitiveness of local cattle with the analysis of comparative advantage (DRCR) and competitive (PCR). The total number of cattle in East Java in 2015 as many as 4,729,298 tail, of which 27% are local cattle (beef Madura, Ongole cattle, cows PO, Brahman, Bali cattle). The largest local cattle producers in East Java consecutive derived from Sumenep, Tuban, Malang and Blitar Bojonegoro. Competitive and comparative competitiveness of imported cattle, including high category indicated by the PCR value DRCR 0.4262 and 0.4396. While the competitiveness of local cattle have a competitive advantage in the high category with a value of PCR 0.3677, but the comparative competitiveness at a level high enough to DRCR 0.5134. The average profit nourish 2-3 cows imported Rp 1.49014 million / head / month, while for the local cattle Rp 1.454 million / head / month. Cattle business contribution to the family income for cattle imports amounted to 37.48%, while for the local cattle amounted to 33.91%. However, the local cattle business is relatively cheaper capital and relatively higher meat prices and a more favorable consumer, because less fat content. There are six production facilities needed to improve the competitiveness of local cattle, namely human resources, technology, capital, raw materials, machinery and markets.
