Abstract

This research is conducted to analyze and to describe the students' thinking process in solving mathematical problem based on Mason's stages viewed from Adversity Quotient. This research in used a qualitative-descriptive methods study. The subjects are six students of class VIII in SMP Karya Budi in the Even Semester of 2017/2018 Academic Year. The selection of subjects using purposive sampling technique. Determination of the subjects of the level of AQ (Quitter, Camper, and Climber) is based on the results of Adversity Response Profile (ARP) test. Data collected by using tests and interviews, then triangulation to check the validity of the data. Data were analyzed using the concept of Miles and Huberman: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that: (1) the Quitter subject performs a semi-conceptual thinking process; (2) the Camper subject also performs a semi-conceptual thinking process; and (3) the Climber subject performs a conceptual thinking process.
