Abstract

Nearly half of the population who have mental disorder are adolescent. The data which obtained from Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Basic Health Research, Ministry of Health of Indonesia), within the past five years (2013-2018), the number of adolescents experiencing mental disorders in Indonesia has been reached 7%. This research aims to explore the contribution of psychological factors to mental disorder among adolescent. This research uses qualitative approach with observation and interview as the data collection methods. The participants of this research are six men, 18-21 years old and currently being hospitalized. The interview was done to participants and nurses. The results of this study indicate that the types of mental disorders experienced by the six participants of this study were unidentified schizophrenia. The most prominent psychological factors are unhealthy or negative coping mechanism and bad parenting as the important factors that contribute to the emergence of mental disorders in adolescents.
