Abstract

Teacher’s part in foreign language is obviously cetral. In Asian contexts, where learners are stereotyped as ‘less au onomous’, teachers even become vital-an important source of language input. They, in this case, are also expected to serve as a good linguistic model for the learners. This paper criticizes the use of language other than English by the teacher in the practice of English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching in the writer’s local context of EFL learning. The writer argues that there is no compromise for a foreign language teacher to speak the native tongue in the class.
