Abstract

This research aimed to find out the students’ perception of the use of e-learning in English classes in SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Purbalingga during COVID 19 pandemic. A quantitative and qualitative methodology were used in this survey research. The data was obtained from a close questionnaire and structured interviews. The respondents of this research were 60 students and 4 interviewees. The result showed that the students had a positive perception of the implementation of e-learning in English classes. It was based on the questionnaire result which reached 70.4%. The data was strengthened by interview results which showed that the students had a good perception of the use of e-learning in English classes during the pandemic. In addition, E-Learning provided many benefits and had a positive effect on students in the learning process. It can be seen that students could access materials anywhere and anytime. They were also able to organize material well and found it easier to submit the assignment. E-Learning made students more active in asking and interacting with the teacher about material which students did not understand. Besides, they also knew well how to use the features on the e-learning, even though they still found problems such as a disrupted internet network and quite expensive quota.
