Abstract
This research is motivated by the importance of students' concept understanding skills as one of the skills that support students in higher order thinking. This study uses a cooperative learning model, think pair share to examine the effect that occurs when students interact. From the indicators of understanding concepts and syntax that exist in think pair share, it increases students' thinking power, is able to represent material, and students have welldeveloped interactions. The purpose of this research to examine the achievement of mathematical concepts skills of students who obtain Think Pair Share from one cooperative learning models with students who obtain conventional learning (Scientific). This research is a quantitative research by conducting an initial ability test on students in addition to the data that has been obtained in the initial step. This research consists of an experimental class with one group pretest-postest design, that obtained think pair share and a control class that obtained conventional learning. The population of this research was students from one of the State Junior High Schools in Jambi and sampel of this research was students from class VIII of two classs with random sampling. The results showed students who obtain think pair share have a effect to perform mathematical concepts with indicators of classify, represent, procedure, and problem solving more than students who obtain conventional learning.
