Abstract

This research is motivated by Indonesian character education, which is currently eroded by cultural shifts, especially in education. In this study, the authors explain the relevance of Indonesian characters to the concept of thinking of Sheekh Az-Zarnuji, a Muslim author from the Middle East. This study aims to describe the idea of education according to Sheekh Az-Zarnuji in the book Salim Al Muta'allim and its relevance to National Character Education. Sheik az-Zarnuji is an Arabic philosopher and writer from Turkey. The research method used is library research. The primary sources of this research are the book of Salim Al Muta'allim and other supporting books related to morals and adab. The study results include the notion of education, the formulation of educational objectives, the nature of educators, the nature of students, educational content, educational tools, and situations. The goals of learning or Islamic education, according to Burhanuddin Sheekh Az-Zarnuji, are: hoping for the pleasure of Allah almighty, seeking happiness in the hereafter, eliminating ignorance both from oneself and from others, reviving religion, and preserving Islam that can be sustainable. If the owner is knowledgeable, zuhud and taqwa are invalid without Knowledge. The method used in this research is a literature study. Data were collected through primary sources, namely the Book of Ta'lim Al-Muta'allim and other books as research support. Data is processed through data reduction, data presentation, and verification. There is relevance between the concepts of moral education and adab according to Sheekh Azzarnuji and National character education both in terms of understanding education, educational goals, nature of educators, educational values, and educational content. The results of this research can be used as a basis for understanding the concept of moral and adab education, according to Sheekh Az-zarnuji, as well as materials for developing further research for educational practice.
